Case Report
A London based NHS Trust recently admitted that sub-standard medical care provided by their staff had caused a young boy, born in 2013, to suffer serious injury and complex life long disability.
Midwives at the NHS Hospital did not spot the boy was in a breech position before the labour began and by the time the problem was identified the baby boy’s heart rate had started to drop. His mother was rushed into theatre for an emergency caesarean section but the baby had tragically already been starved of oxygen and had suffered a serious brain injury as a result of this.
The child’s injuries are so severe that he requires specialist 24-hour care for the rest of his life. His family have moved into a new home which has been specifically adapted to accommodate his needs.
The child’s serious brain injury and his daily needs and support so extensive that the total amount of compensation he will receive, over the course of his life, is £37 million pounds.
