Delay in Diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia
N was treated by her Neurosurgeon for trigeminal neuralgia. However, following the surgery and despite complaints of loss of vision, this was not acted upon by the medical team which resulted in N losing the vision in her right eye.
Independent expert evidence was obtained following Minton Morrills involvement. Expert evidence was sought from experts in the fields of Neurosurgery and Ophthalmology. Certain records and x-rays were missing and efforts were made to locate these. It became apparent that there was a true ophthalmic emergency which was not acted upon and had the ophthalmic emergency been acted upon then N’s vision could have been saved.
The claim was vigorously defended throughout but eventually the Hospital put forward proposals to resolve the claim and M finally accepted the sum of £60,000.00.
